These past couple weeks have been busy in both California and Ohio. Rocky and I had parties in our home for our family and friends. We love hosting parties, even if it is just an excuse to decorate a table!
I feel like these past two parties were a definite success!
We both went with dark table linens and big centerpieces with greenery. It was not a big shocker that they were similar without us realizing until we saw each other’s pictures.
Rocky had just painted her long wall that extends from the living room all the way to the kitchen black. Almost anything she put on it would be a dramatic pop. The artwork she found at Target through the Project 62 line really did that.
On that same shopping trip to Target she picked up a few things from the “Hearth and Home” section…… because who can resist it???
Rocky had scored these amazing antique plates a few years back for $50 for a set of 12. They are stunning, especially over black.
She also used old Ikea placemats and taped them together to create a runner.
The key for this tablescape was mixing old and new. Just a few unique pieces made the table come to life in a fresh new way. I think it is simply gorgeous!
Meanwhile in Columbus……..
I had big plans of fresh eucalyptus in billowing piles along my table with some matte black candles popping through. That didn’t happen so I was forced to forage my property. I ended up with a mix of different kinds of pine, pinecones and ferns. I think it ended up looking pretty good despite the last-minute change of plans.
I used a lot of decor I already had, like the gold mercury glass votives and the white plates from Ikea that we bought for my sister’s wedding last year.
I did buy some new black candle holders at Ikea for my black candle sticks. I wanted something matte and modern that would really pop through the green.
I always try to have a side table with all the extra plates, napkins and flatware my guests could need. Otherwise it seems there is always a rummage through my cabinets and drawers that ultimately leads to a big mess or the exposure of the infamous “junk drawer”. Be honest, I know you have one too.
This little nook in my dining room worked perfectly this time with a new side table I had recently bought at Target. It is the perfect length for the space without protruding into the walkway.
Both parties went great and everyone went home full and happy. On to the next party……
