Its week 4 of the ORC and I am so excited by how much work was accomplished! A few of the big and questionable pieces were built and installed. Lights were installed and the painting is done. Let me show you:
Last Friday my two sconces from West Elm were delivered. If you didn’t read the whole crazy story about those, read it here. I was so excited to get them installed. They ended up being so much bigger than I thought. I did the measurements thousands of times before buying, but in real life they felt gigantic.
So up they went. We started with one to get the feel. The room felt unbalanced so we went for it and installed the other.
Next up was a simple vanity that my mom gave me a few years ago. It to is from West Elm and has a clean mid century vibe. It was a deep espresso color and needed some attention on top. I honestly have no idea what happened to it, but I will say, I have 3 kids. Who knows.
Before I jumped into sanding and painting, I smeared a little nail polish remover on the top and the stain came right off to reveal a medium toned oak. From there I kept on going and eventually I had this:
I am really happy with the result so far. I have not “finished” it in any way. I have a few options and I haven’t decided quite yet. I still have 2 weeks to decide!! ð
Besides the last bits of touch up trim paint, all I had left on my schedule for this week was the wall length headboard. Before I knew it, Courtney had built my 3 panels!
I used my green velvet curtains from IKEA I had bought a year ago to upholster the headboard panels. We used 1/2 inch foam for the front of the panels. I wanted a little softness but not a super squishy sort of feel.
About 1,000 staples and tugs later, we had this:
We still have a lot to do. For week 5- I need to install our ceiling light, finish the barn door, finish trim work around new windows, choose furniture and styling pieces and find artwork. Phew thats a lot!
Here is a link to all the other ORC participants this go around. Check it out because there is some major inspiration there!!
Until next week,
